How is your kitchen remodel project coming along? In our last post, we provided tips for DIY demolition of your kitchen. Today we will discuss the different types of cabinets you can install in your new kitchen.

There are three common types of cabinets to choose from. We will discuss each one in order to help you choose the right cabinets for your kitchen:

This is a standard kitchen cabinet for your home. These cabinets are made in standard sizes and are available in a limited number of colors and styles.

The purpose of this type of cabinet is to create a more standard look in your home and to be able to purchase and install the cabinet fast. You won’t have to wait for an extended delivery time period for stock cabinets. A stock cabinet will be cheaper than the other two options too if your kitchen remodel is becoming too expensive.

You can order semi-custom cabinets instead for more personalization. These types of cabinets are available in many more features than stock cabinets. Semi-custom cabinets are offered with different finishes, stains, embellishments, glazes, techniques and paints and can include features such as organization inserts, roll-out shelves and more.

You should expect semi-custom cabinets to arrive at your home between 4-8 weeks after you order them. If you plan on ordering semi-custom cabinets for your kitchen remodel, you should order them as soon as possible so the entire project isn’t delayed for too long waiting for them.

A custom cabinet is the Cadillac of cabinets. You can instruct a craftsman to build a cabinet to your exact specifications, including the size and finish and various features.

A custom cabinet will cost much more than stock cabinets or semi-custom cabinets but each one will be 100% unique to your home. You should also expect anywhere from 4-12 weeks for completion of the custom cabinets for your kitchen remodel.

The most popular choice for cabinets are semi-custom cabinets. This allows a homeowner to add a little more style than stock cabinets provide at a cost more affordable than custom-built cabinets.
